Werner wn«t a Freemason, and his religious notions, of which ho makes " SIB lion» I:T " tho mouthpiece, were, at tho date of his writing this poem, of a thcosophic order. In fact ho aimed, at that time, at establishing a Xcw Religion of his own invention; thongh ultimately ho became a Priest, and preached in Human Catholic pulpits.
