• On the- reverie fide of the title-leaf of the firft volume ftands a ihort poem of the publiiher to one P. Camin at Cambray, the birth-place of
Monftrelet. In the dedication to the king the work is praifed : the great rarity of the firft edition, with gothic letters noticed as an occafion for this* new one, and afliftance requefted on account of the printing expenfes-The preface of the author commences with an eulogium of the beginning: of Salluft. Bell. Catil. on heroic deeds; he then fpeaks of himfelf,— of his youth,—and of this work as a continuation of Froiflartv which, commences with the year 1400, the firft yolume of which ends with the: death of king Charles VI. the 22éOétober 1-422L In this volume are fmalL feélions numbered as chapters, in the others they are omitted. The preface: to the fécond volume is fimilar to the firft. This ends*with May 1444.
The third volume has no preface. Mbnftrelet's work, ends* leaf 18 V with the year 1467. Hereupon follows, on leaf 132, the preface of an. anonymous handr who pledges himfelf to be willing to live and die as a, true Frenchman ; and advertifes, that having read Gaguinfs, FroiflàrtV and Monftrelet's Chronicles, he had undertaken to continue them. As. a beginning, he makes fome additions to Monftrelet, and concludes the whole at Oétober 1516, under king Francis.I. The tide of the columns of leaf 132 is in thefe terms : * Autres nouvelles Chroniques nouvellement additionées.9 Thefe addition» are no new work, but the beginning, as far as leaf 135- k excepted,, tranfcribed verbatim from, the Mer des.
