This world properly pertains»to the.general french Mftory, and, lor -that reafon,. muft: be included here, as Sauvage has availed himfelf .of itt it yields in nothing to -the firft edition of Froiflart in rarity, and bears a great refemblance to it,. and therefore, ferves as a confirmation of the notice concerning it. The print isgothic throughout, on clean and good paper; with columns-divided* each into 42-45 lines,—the larger, and fmaller initial letters, efpecially im the firft volume^ are* feldom ornamented,-—alfo abbreviations. Marks of cUflînétîoir are only, as in the manufcript, a point and long comma. No catchtoords-are extant, but fignatares to ternions; and each leaf-of the text, .vol. i. n; IV. -is * numbered,; vol. -IH. with Fs* On each title-leaf the D of the* Le- is- • a • grotefque wood-cut of # the fiz* of* the fourth* part of the face of .the columns, with mean figures of mens heads and animals. Here and there are other wood-cuts, not much better, efpecially • wfifere • the hiftory of* a new ' king commences : the largeft occurs- on the reverie of the tide-leaf of the*.fi»ft volume,,.alfo on the 181ft leaf of that volume, a fukable place, .but very unfeafenaMy at the. commencement of.the text in the in. and iv. volume, and once more at leaf 216, whilft it refers-to the hiftory*f king Clovis, and how he triumphs over the Alemanni; an angel delivers^ fhield with the thne-lilies to a monk; . another .monk- delivers a fimilarone-to the king,, in order to exchange it for: the old one with three toads; and Clotildis points to the Saviour upon a» crofs, together with a dove with the flafh of unétion ; in the .other half of. the engravings Clovis -ftands -ia the baptifkial font,. and ^Glotildis -knack. before an altar.
