• Tie king of England wa* very impatient tj hear of peace being concluded, and his uncles, knowing this, determined to fend him an exprefs with the news : they called to them a herald, named Marche, who was king at arms in England, and wrote to the king by him the whole detail of what had been agreed on, and ûgned by both pari-ties. The herald was rejoiced to receive theft letters (rem the dukes, and, leaving the Engjifli teats* rode to Calais, where he hired a fifbing-boat, wà, by the grace of Cod, a favourable wind, and tficf exertions of the fif|crnfien» wm fpeedily landed at Dover. , He then continued his journey until he .came to London, whcrç he found the king. On his arrival, he was introduced into the king's chamber, bec^qfe he was come from Calais* where the king's uncles were negotiating a peace. He prefented his letters ; and the king, laving perufed them, was fo wcB plea&d with their contents» and the good news he had brought* that he g^ve him very rich gifts, and a handfpme annuity, as the herald told me afterwards when riding with him through part of England* -.
