Thefe knights avowed, in the name,of the duke, all the a&s Bethiiac had committed, as done by his comt mand, and claimed, at the lame time, the perfoa of Bethifac, that they might conduâ: him tov his lord, the duke of Berry. The king, from the many infamous (lories he had heard of Bethifac, hated him, and he and his brother were inclined to have him put to death ; but the council dared not condemn him, as they too. much feared the duke of Berry.
