daitk, to the great aftonifhment of all who m faw him, how he could do it. jHe kept the lighted rtprches in his hands that he -might be feen by all Paris, and even two or three leagues jiff. JEfle played mjmy tricks on the rope, and his jagility was highly prfûfed. The bifhop of Paris and his numerous clergy, dothed in their robes, were without the church of Nôtre Dame, waiting for the queen, who was helped out of her litter by the four dukes of Berry, Burgundy, Touraine, and Bourbon.— When the other ladies had left their litters, and .flifmounfed }from their palfreys, they all entered the church in grand procefhon, preceded by the bifhop and prièfls, finging aloud to the praife of God and the virgin Mary. The queen w^s conducted through the nave and choir to the great altar, where, on her knees, flie made her prayers according as .fhe thought good, and prefented, as her offering, four cloths of gpld, and the handfome crown which the an-gels had put on her fhe,ad at the gâte of Paris, as has ,been feinted. The lord John de la "Riviere and *fir John le Mercier inftantly brought one more rich, with which they crowned her. This toeing done, the queen and her ladies re-turned.to tjieir litters, wherein they were feated ps before; and, m it was late, there rwere up-wards of five hundred lighted tapers attending the procession. _ In fuch array were they con-ducted to the palace, whiere the king, queen Jpan, and the duchefs of Qrleans,^re waiting far 359 '
