When they had received their inftructions and made their preparations, they took leave of the king and his uncles, and rode for Chalons in Champagne, with an attendance fuitable to their rank, and the purpofe they were going on. They met the lord de Coucy at Chalons, retaining knights and men at arms from, Bar, Lorraine and Champagne for this expedition, of which he was to command, the van-guard. He entertained the ambaffadors one day fplen-didly at dinner, and on the morrow they conti-nued the road to Sainte Menehould, and thence towards Luxembourg, to gain intelligence where the emperor was.
