The ambaffadors, having promifed this (hould be performed, tçok leave and fet out fot South* ampton,. where their veffel was waiting for them. Having embarked, they put to fea with a favour-able wind, and* crofEng the Spanifh main, ar* rived in five days at Oporto, wheçe fortunately the king was, and much rejoiced at their return.
They related to the king all they had feen and heard in England, regarding king Richard and his uncles, and, in confirmation, delivered letters from them; The king of'Portugal, impatient for the aid of the Englifh. to retaliate on the Spaniards, did not delay calling his council, rçhen it was re* folved, that don Aiphonfo Vietat, high admiral of Portugal, ihould get ready fevén galleys and eighteen (hips to fail " to England, and bring back the duke of Lancafter. and his army. Don Ai-phonfo was foon ready, and, fetting foil from Oporto with favourable winds, arrived in fix days at Briftol, where he anchored. •
• The duke was much rejoiced on hearing of his arrival, for he was at. the time in Wales, where the king and all his court were: he haftened his preparations, as his knights, fquires and archers were near Briftol, he having provided at Briftol two hundred veflels to tranfport them, uçdèr con-voy of the portuguefe fleets to the comment* It was intended by the duke that his. duohefs and daughters ihould accompany him, to Caftille and Portugal, where he propofcd nobly marrying them} for he wifhed not to return very foôn, and with reafon, as he perceived affairs in England
