* Limoufin, during the time 1« was in com* ihaUd *t Brioude, had always fpared the lands of the lord de la Voulte, fituated on the Rhône, in Ms different eronrfioas to Ance, and in the country of Vèlay, for he had been kind to him iii his youth. He therefore resolved to go to him, entreat his mercy, and beg he would make lis peace with France, for thut he would hence* forward be a loyal Frenchman. He went there-* fore to Voulte, being well acquainted with the roads, and entered a houfe, for he was on foots after he had inquired what hour it was, he went to the caftle to wait on its lord. The porter would not at firft allow him to enter the gate.} but,, after many fair words, he was permitted to tome into the gateway, and ordered not to ftir further without permiffion, which he cheerfully promifed* The lord de la Voulte, in the after* noon* came into the court to amufe himfelf, and advanced to the gate; Limoufin inftantly caft himfelf on his knees* and said, € My lord, da you not know ine ?' ' Not I, by my faith/ re*, plied the lord, who never imagined it was Li-piouftmi but, having looked at him fome time, added ; f Thou refembleft very much Limoufin, who Was formerly my page,' * On my troth, my lordi Limoufin I am, and your fervant ^alfo.* He then begged his pardon for what had paffed* and told him exactly every thing that bad hap-pened to 'him* and how Louis Raimbttut had treated him.
