difpleafe him fo much as that the BEAM men fhould hold out Lourde against him ; but he could never obtain any thing fatisfactory on this head.
'The count de Foix, as I have mentioned be-fore, was very fufpicious of the intentions of the duke, who did him no harm, though the count d'Armagnac and the lord d'Albreth wifhed him to act Otherwife ; but he was not fo inclined. While he was encamped between Montmarfen and the high lands of Albreth, he fent fir Peter de Beuil to Orthès, where on his arrival he was handfomely received by the count de Foix and lodged in the oastle. He entertained him fplendidly, and prefented him with finç horfes and mules, and to his people gave other gifts : he fent by him to the duke of Anjou four beautiful horfes and two SpaniHi greyhounds, fo handfome and good there were none like them. Some fecret négociations pafled between the count and fir Peter de Beuil, of which we knew nothing for a longtime; but, from circumstan-ces which (hortly happened, wefufpected what I will novt tell you, and by that time we (hall ar-rive at Tarbes.
