WE then ivde gently, and he began his nar-ration as follows : 6 At the first - renewal of •Che war, the French conquered hack again from the English all their pofmmmm in Aquitaine, and fir Oliver de Clifson, having turned to the French interest, conducted the duke of Anjou, as you know, into Brittany to the estates of sir Robert Knolles an# to the fiege of Derval, all which, I dare say, you have in your history, as well as the treaty made by sir Hugh Brae, coufm to fir Robert, to Surrender the castle, for which he had given hoftages, imagining the duke of Anjou to be in such ftrength that the fiege could not be railed; and you probably relate how s\r Robert Knolles, having entered the çastie of Der-val, refused to abide by this treaty/ * Truly, sir, I have heard all you bave just related.' . * And have you noticed the skirmish which took place before the caftle, when fir Oliver de Clisson was wounded?' * I cannot say,' replied I, * that I have any remembrance of it.
