ET WEEN the county of Foix and Beam lies the county of Bigorre, which belongs to 'France, and is bounded on one fide by the Toûloirfairi, and the other by Comminges, and Béarn. In this country of Bigorre is fituated the ftrong caftle of Lourde, which has always toeen regarded as Englifti fince the country was given up to the king of England and the prince, as part of the rarrfom for king John of France, according to the treaty ' of peace ftiade at Bre-tigny near Chartres, and afterwards ratified at ' Calais, as it has already been mentioned in the • former part of this hiftory.
When the prince of Wales left England to take pofleflion of the duchy of Aquitaine, (which the king his father had given to him to hold as a fief and inheritance under him, in which were two archbifliopriçks and twenty-two bi* ' fhopricks,) accompanied by the princefs of Wales, they refided at Bourdeaux about a year.
