FRANCIS Atreoien, Peter dm Bols» Peter It Nuitre ^nd the other captains, after their return to Ghent from the iege of Ypres, were daily and nightly imagining how they could anr noy their enemies. Francis Atremen found ont» that the governor of Oudenarde, fir Gilbert de Lieneghen and the men at ar»st had left Qude-parde, by orders from the earl of Flanders, and were with the army of the king of France before JBergues and Bourbourg. He alfo learnt that the town was carelefcly guarded, and that the ditches $n the meadows on the road to H^tnme were dryf m they h$d emptied them of water to get the fifltt fo that the walls of the towu naight be approach-ad on foot, and might be entered with. ladders^ Such was the intelligence the fpies of Francis Atrement h$d brought to Ghent, who, at their leifure, had examined the town; for the gyards Jidld the Ghent men very cheap* and» as it were* had forgotten, or were quite indifferent concern* pig them.. •
