At Canterbury, they met John Ball (who thought he fhould find there the arch-hifhop, but he was at London)* Wat Tyler and Jack Straw. On their entrance into Canterbury* they went much fcafted by every one, for the in-habitants were of their way of thinking § and, hav-ing held a council, they refolved to march to Lon-don, and alfo to fend emiflaries acrofe the Thames to Eflcxi Suffolk, Bedford, and other counties* to prefs the people to march to London on that fide, and thus, as it went,-to furround it, Which the king would not be able to prevent. It was their inten-tion that all the different parties fhould be colie&ed together on the fcaft of the holy facrament* or on the following day.
