The lord de Langurant-s people, on coming to him, found him mortally wounded : they were very much enraged at it, and, having bandaged his wound as. well as they could, carried him back tp his caftle, where he, - on the morrow, expired. Such was the end of the lord dçx Langurant ip Gafcony.
At this period, a deed of arms w$s performed in the Rochellois, againft Heliot de Plaifac, a very amiable fquire and gallant man at arms, governor of Bouteville*, an Englifh garrifon, wherein there were about fix fcore lances, Englifh apd Gafcons, who, pillaging the whole country, advanced almost daily as far as the towns of la Rochelle or St. Jean d'Angeli. They kept thefe towns in fuch dread that none dared to venture out but very privately, which angered greatly the knights and fquirçs of that country..
They confidered well this bufinefs, and rcfolvtd either to apply fuch a remedy as would put a ftop to it, or to lofe their lives or liberties in the attempt. They collefted, in the town of la Rochelle, about two hundred fpears, on whoni they could depend'; for it was towards this town that Heliot de Plaifac made his excurfions. There were now in it* from
