Oh' die-other handj the king bf Spain had or-dered his brother, the baftard of Spairi, to enter Navarre with a powerful army : ht attacked towns and catties, and gained much touhtïy, in fpite of the king of Navarre, • who could do but little' to defend himfelf. He fent to inform king Rich&rd of England how he was fituated, in the hope that he would aid him in oppofing the king of France in Ms courtty of Evteux ; for that he himfelf would remain in Navarre, so guard his fortreflfes agâïïrfi the king of Spain. • • • - '
King Richard, in confequence of a council which had been called on this btffinefs, fent fir Robert le Roux* with a body of men at arms and arthert, to Cherbourg.
