without any exceptions, all the inhabitants of both feces whom he had'found there. There was, during this winter, a full parliament holdén in England, refpeding regulations for the country, but more efpecially to form eftablifliments for the king's fens. They confidered that the prince of Wales kept a noble and grand ftate, as he might well do ; for he was valiant, powerful and rich, and had befides a large inheritance in Aquitaine^ where provifions and every thing elfe abounded. They therefore remon-ftrated with him, and told him from the king his father, that it would be proper for him to refide in his duchy, which would furnifli him withal to keep as jgrand an eftablifhment as he pleafed. The ba-rons and knights of Aquitaine were alfo defirous of his reflding among them, and had before mtreated the king to allow him fo to do ; for, although the lord John Chandos was very agreeable and kind to them, they fHH loved better to have their own natu* ral lord and fovereign than any other. The prince readily affented to this, and made mery preparation becoming his own and his wife's rank *. When all was ready, they took leave of the January i8t 1372, he was aflaffinated by two lords" whom he had abufed.
