He had them (hut up in different rooms im the caftie ; and his reafpn for fo doing was, that, fince the reconciliation made on octafion of the death of the conftable of France, the king of Na-varre bad confpired and done many things contrary to tbe honor of the king, and tbe good of his realm : the earl of Harcourt bad alfo ufed many injurious? expreffioRs in the caftie of Vaudieuil*, When anf tfflembly was holden there to grant a fubfidy to the king of France againft the laid king, in order M prevent, m much as lay in his power, the fiibfidy from being agreed to. The king, after this, fat down to dinner, and afterwards, mounting bis horfe, vtode, attended by all Ms company, to a field behind tbe caille, called tbfe Field of Pardon. The king* then ordered the earl of Harcourt, the lord of Gravilie, thelofd Mau&ué and Oliver Doublet ta be brought thither m two carts: their heads wëref cut off, and their bodies dragged to the gibbet at Rouen, where they were bung^ and their beads' placed upon the gibbet.
In the courfe of that day and the morrow, the king fet at liberty all the other prifoners, except three : Cbarkfting of Navarre, whowas conducted to prifon in tbe Louvre at Paris, and afterwards to the Ch£telet: fome of the king's council were ap-pointed as a guard over him. Friquet add Vaubatu were alfo confined in the Châtelet.
