In the nine hundred and thirty-third year of grace, Athelatan, king of England, appointed Constantine to reign as king of the Scots under himself, saying, ' that it was more glorious to make a king than to be a king.' And it is a matter preserved in general recollection both in England and Scotland to this present day. " Again, Constantine, king of Scotland, and Eugan, king of Cumberland, coming to the aforesaid king of England, Atheistan, after some dispute which had arisen between them, surrendered themselves and their kingdoms to this same Atheistan, in grateful acknowledgment of which action, Atheistan himself received the son of Constantine from the sacred font as his godfather.
