THE SUQf: OF TOURNAY RAISED, BY MEANS OF Λ . TRUCE*
T^H E fiege of Tournay had lafted a long time ;
eleven weeks all but three days; when thfc lady Joan de Valois, filler to the king of France, a(id mother to fhe earl of Hainault, took great pains with both parties to make up a peace, fo that they might foparate without a battle. The good lady had frequently, on her knees, befought it of the king of France, and afterwards came to the lords of the empire, efpecially to the duke of Brabant, and the duke of Juliers, who had married her daughter, and to the lord John cf Hainault..
She at lad fo far prevailed, by the help and af« fiftance of the lord Lewis d'Augimont, who was vrell beloved by both parties, that a day was fixed for * negotiation, when each of the parties was to fend five well qualified perfons to treat upon the beft means of bringing about a réconciliation, and a truce for three days was agreed upon.
Thefe cominiflioners were to meet at a chapel, fttuatçd in the fields, called Efplotin, On the day appointed, having heard mafs, they affembied after dinner, and the good lady with them.
On the part of the king of France^ there came Charles king of Bohemia, Charles earl of Alençon, the king's brother, the biihop of Liege, the earl of Flanders, and the earl of Armagnac,
