THE KING OF ENGLAND BESIEGES THE CITY OF
TOURNA Y WITH A POWERFUL ARMY.
J^IN G Philip, foon after the departure of thefè
lords, was informed of all that had pafled, and
what refolutions had been entered into at this conference, and how king Edward was to come to Tournay; he therefore determined to provide it lb well with ammunition, &o , and with fo many good knights, that the city ihould be well, ferved and well advifed. He fent direûly to the city of Tournay the flower of his chivalry ; the earl Raoul of Eu, conftable of France, the young earl of Guinee, his fon, the earl of Foix and his brothers, the earl of Ay mery and Narbonne, the lord Aymery of Poitiers, the lord Gçoffry of Chargny, the lord Gerard of Montfaucon, his two marflials, the lord Robert Bertrand and lord Matthew de Trie, the lord of Cstfeux, fenefchal of Poitou, the lord of Chatilloik and fir John of Landas, who had with them many knights and efquires renowned in arms. The king entreated of them earnestly, that they would pay fo much care and attenrion to Tournay, that . nothing unfortunate might happen, which they all promifed him. They took leave of the king of France, left Arras, and arrived at Tournay, where they found fir Godemar duFày, who had been fent thither before them. He received them joyfully,
