Three knights, one day, fet out to befiege a town called la Roche-d'erricn : they had coiiefted a number of men at arm? on horfeback, and foot folders, and made fome violent attacks upon the town ; but it was fo well defended, that the Eng-liih could riot gain any advantage. The captain of the gftrrifon for lord Charles was Taffart de Guines*, tji|t three parts of the inhabitants were more at* ^ched tp the Engliih than to the French ; fo they arretted fir Taffart, and declared they would mur-der him, if he would not join them \n furrendering the place to the Engliih. - Upon this, he faid he would comply with whatever they wiihed : they then let him gp, *nd advance^ towards the Engliih army, whom they admitted into their town. Sir Taffart was continued as before, governor of it. When the Engliih returned to* Heanebon, they left with him a fuffieiepgy of men pt arms and archers, to defend the town and caftle. Lord Charles, when be heard this, fwors things ftioukl not go on thus.
