When he had marched about twd leagues from Abbeville, and was approaéhing the enemy, he was advifed to , form his army in order of* battle, and to let thofe on foot march forward, that they might not be trampled on by the horfes. The king, upon this, fent off four knights, the lord Moyne of Baftleberg*, the lord of Noyers, the lord of Beaujeu, and the lord of Aubigny, who rode fo near to the Englilh that they could clearly i diftinguilh their pofition. The Engliih plainly per-ceived they were come to reconnoitre them : how-ever, they took no notice of it, but fuffered them to return unmolefled. When the king of France faw them coming; back, he halted his army ; and the knights, pnfhing through the crowds, came near the king, who faid to them, € My lords, what news?' They looked at each other, without open-ing their mouths : for neither chofe to %eak firft. At laft, the'king addréffed himfelf to the lofd Moyne, who was attached to the king of Bohemia, and had performed very many gallant deeds, fo that he was efteemed one of the moft valiant knights in Chriften-dom. The lord Moyne faid, € Sir, I will fpeak, fince it pleafes you to order me, but under the cor-re6lion of my companions. We have advanced far enough to reconnoitre your enemies. Know, then, that they are drawn up in three battalions, and are waiting for you.
